Systemic work with individuals

Would you like to change things in your relationships? Perhaps you notice recurring patterns in your romantic relationships or friendships that keep leading to painful dynamics? Or do you want to better understand your feelings and reactions? Maybe some old issues with your own parents are reflected in difficult situations in your romantic relationship?

Systemic work with individuals can be helpful for these and many other topics because they offer you the secure frame

of the 1 to 1 conversation while at the same time your relationship system and its interactions are considered.

This allows you to reflect on difficult or frightening situations from a safe distance and, together with me, you can develop and try out new approaches. When you feel confident enough you can implement your new positions with the important people in your life.

Feel free to give me a call!

Systemic work with couples

Couples often come to my practice because they feel trapped in recurring conflict loops. Both partners usually know exactly how these loops work and that they always lead to a greater emotional distance to one another, but both almost inevitably find themselves caught in these reoccurring loops of painful communication.

Emotionally-focused therapy (EFT) offers many helpful methods here, through which central emotional reactions are reorganized and both partners can be repositioned to one another. This sets positive cycles in motion that strengthen the bond between the partners.

Couple issues can be the changes brought about by the arrival of the first child or the division of labor with young children. Sexuality issues, jealousy, closeness-distance issues, or issues with the extended family also occur frequently. Some couples want support in deciding whether or not to continue the relationship. Other couples agree on their break-up and want support on how to tell their children and how to continue being a good parenting team.

Then there are issues of the blended family, decision-making in important couple decisions, such as having children or not, moving abroad, or bringing up children when parents come from different cultural or religious backgrounds. Raising children is generally a common topic in systemic couple work (see family conversations).

Another important topic is the couple relationship after an affair, whether the relationship can continue and what changes are needed to move on, how forgiveness can succeed and how partners can begin to talk honestly about their needs and fears. Loss and trauma are important issues that can affect a couple relationship, as is living with addictions or mental illnesses in one or both partners.

In recent years there has been an increasing number of couple issues on open relationships and polyamory. All topics mentioned above apply to homosexual as well as heterosexual relationships.

Please contact me to discuss if couple work could be for you!

Systemic work with families

Systemic family work can be helpful for all kinds of problems within the family or origin, the extended family or the blended family.

Fundamentally, systemic family work is about strengthening the understanding of all family members for one another and thereby increasing the ability to provide mutual emotional support in different life situations and phases.

Families or parts of families come to my practice with very different topics, such as parenting issues, behavioral problems in children, school problems, computer game consumption, as well as topics related to foster families and adoption. When children grow up, different issues can develop, for example

eating disorders, self-harm, addictive or psychosexual difficulties that often frighten their parents or leave them with the feeling that they can no longer get through to their children.

Further issues can result from the impact of health, psychological or professional problems on the family. All of the topics described in the “couple work” section are also of great importance to the family. Traumatic experiences, loss and grief can have particularly strong effects on family life and affect individual family members extremely.
